You can set out on foot from Pufffin Cottage to enjoy the spectacular scenery of Neist Point and Moonen Bay.
The route to Neist point is over a pleasent quiet single track road giving spectacular views over loch Mor to
Moonen Bay and back across to Puffin Cottage and Dunvegan Head. On reaching the end of the single track
road you are rewarded with the beathtaking view of Neist Point and the Lighthouse onward to The Outer
Hebrides. The Lighthouse path lies beyond this point winding down and across the escarpment. This is the most
westerly point on Skye with seals and killer whales and occasional young basking sharks. The birdlife is
astounding with meadow and rock pipit, common buzzard,
rough legged buzzard, golden eagle, eider and long tailed
ducks and even Puffins have been spotted here. Beyond the
lighthouse you can reach the shore and explore the many rock
pools marveling out over Moonen Bay to waterstein Head 970
feet above the sea. Return to puffin Cottage by the same route.
Waterstein Head can be reached by taking a detour from the
single track road at the top of the incline at the point where
Loch Mor first came into view but thIs should be left for another
days fine walking as the view deserves more than just a brief
glance. Marvel at the stunning view of the Outer Hebrides
spread out on the far horizon and the much closer Neist Point
jutting out into Moonen Bay.
